Project #: Acting Up!

Acting up?

Yes, acting up. As kids we were warned not to ”go there“. But after years of patient and careful consideration, many of us are starting to feel that it is indeed time to take matters into our own hands

So get ready to use your super powers. Remember, women comprise 80% of consumer spending. We are at the wheel now.

The mission behind She Grows Food is to create platforms for all of us to directly support rebuilding our local food systems and the women behind it.

How will She Grows Food do this?

  • Prying open and reshaping the marketplace to include and support local farms by coordinating laser sharp efforts that involve your buying and talking super powers.
  • Helping to close the price gap for farmers. After years of being shut out of the markets, many are wary of raising prices even if as their losses grow. We need to insure them that we will support their fair price, we acknowledge the true costs of good food and a strong community.
  • Funneling support to do whatever it takes to empower women running farms on the verge of closing: hands on building, needed infrastructure, strategic marketing/branding services, fundraising. Anything and everything.

A little background: We don't mind if our roots are showing.

A hands on project is what brought She Grows Food together in 2008. We worked on a strategic marketing and grant writing effort to bolster the chances of survival for the last four egg farms in Hawaii.

We did this by learning what their concerns and needs were, and what it would take to keep them not only in business but to thrive. Acting Up included media coverage, creating a global presence on the web for them, community outreach. Three years later, we are helping these same farmers plan out growth to meet their new found demand!

It's these farmers that pour their lives into putting food on our tables. We just helped in the ways we could.

The further we looked, the more we saw that farms are crisis all around us. What we also see is a ripe opportunity for change.

In order to direct that change, we all need to use our powers.

Can you help? You bet.

We're fastening our seat belts. Because we know you all drive fast!
